Mengding Ganluo and Biluochun are both famous Chinese teas, belonging to the curly green tea, with a fresh and sweet flavor and unique appearance. But do you know what is the difference between them? If you are a tea lover or want to know more about tea, then this article is for you. Today, we will reveal the five major differences between Meng Ding Ganluo and Bi Luo Chun, so that you will be able to distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of these two types of tea at a glance.
I. Different places of origin
Mengding Ganlu originates from Mengding Mountain, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, and is one of the top ten famous teas in China, as well as a Geographical Indication product of China. Mengding Mountain is one of the four most famous teas in China and is also a Geographical Indication product of China. The altitude of Mengding Mountain is between 800-1500 meters above sea level, the climate is mild, the rainfall is abundant, the soil is fertile, and the tea trees grow on the cloudy mountain slopes, which are influenced by the natural conditions such as sunshine, temperature, humidity, and so on, and form a unique quality and flavor.
Biluochun originates from Dongting Mountain in Taihu Lake, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and is one of the top ten famous teas in China, as well as a Geographical Indication product of China. Dongting Mountain is located on the shore of Taihu Lake, with an altitude of 200-300 meters above sea level. Surrounded by orchards, tea trees are mixed with fruit trees, and the tea absorbs the floral scent of the fruit trees, forming a unique floral and fruity aroma. The tea of Dongting Mountain is divided into two kinds, Dongshan and Xishan, with Dongshan tea of better quality and higher price.
II. Different tree species
The tree species of Mengding Ganlu mainly include the local Sichuan group species, Mingshan 131, Mingshan 311, etc. There are also some introduced Fuding Dabai and Fuzhuang 9. These species belong to the medium (small) leaf species, with thicker buds and leaves, suitable for curling and molding.
The tree species of Biluochun is mainly the local small-leaf species of Suzhou, but also some imported species such as Fuding Dabai. The buds and leaves of the small-leafed species are more delicate and suitable for light kneading and stir-frying, which maintains the tender green color and white hairs of the tea leaves.
Third, the process is different
The process of Mengding Ganlu is three stir-frying and three kneading, that is, the stir-frying process goes through three times of kneading, which makes the cellular breakage rate of the tea leaves reach 65%, releasing more tea polyphenols, caffeine and other substances, and increasing the aroma and flavor of the tea leaves. The kneading degree of Mengding Ganlu is heavier, and the curvature of the tea leaves is larger, presenting a long, slender, compact and well-integrated rope shape.
The process of Bigelow Spring is one frying and one kneading, that is, only one kneading is done during the frying process, which makes the cell breakage rate of the tea leaves lower, retaining more amino acids, theanine and other substances, and increasing the sweetness and freshness of the tea leaves. Bi Luo Chun's kneading degree is lighter, and the curvature of the tea leaves is smaller, presenting a rounded shape that is slender and even, curled like a snail.
Fourth, the aroma is different
The aroma of Mengding Ganlu is mainly tender, i.e. the tea leaves emit a fresh and light fragrance of young buds, sometimes with some fruity or orchid aroma. The tender aroma of Mengding Ganlu is due to the fact that the tea tree grows in the high-altitude mountainous area, which is moisturized by clouds and mist, and the tea leaves have a higher content of amino acids, and the tea leaves are kneaded many times during the frying process, which makes the tea leaves have a stronger aroma.
The aroma of Bigelow Spring is mainly fruity and floral, i.e. the tea leaves emit a strong fruity and floral aroma, such as osmanthus, plum blossom, peach blossom, apricot blossom, orange blossom, and so on. The flower and fruit aroma of Bigelow Spring is due to the mixed planting of tea trees and fruit trees, the tea absorbs the floral aroma of the fruit trees, and the tea leaves are lightly kneaded and lightly stir-fried during the frying process, which makes the tea leaves' aroma even more refreshing.
V. Different prices
The prices of both Mengding Ganluo and Bi Luochun are based on factors such as the grade, quality and production of the tea leaves. Generally speaking, Bi Luochun of the same grade is more expensive than Mengding Ganluo. This is because Bi Luo Chun's production area is smaller, the production of tea leaves is lower, and Bi Luo Chun's picking time is shorter, usually only about one month in spring, so Bi Luo Chun's market supply is less and its price is higher. Meng Ding Ganluo has a larger production area, the tea production is higher, and the picking time of Meng Ding Ganluo is longer, usually in spring, summer and fall, so the market supply of Meng Ding Ganluo is higher and the price is lower.
